Hey GRL!
Now normally I stick to my lane, and just talk about styling and clothes, but I don’t think everyone realizes how important your hairstyle is to your outfit.
When you put on clothes you’re only half way done with creating an entire look. Next step is choosing the right accessories, the right shoes, coordinating your makeup look, and lastly picking the right hairstyle.
I don’t think this is something I understood for a while– and honestly yet again: WHO LET ME COME OUT THE HOUSE LIKE THAT?
While my hair might have been done, the style didn’t always compliment or take my look to the next level. I probably should’ve realized this when my mama used to put pink balls in my hair the night before to match my outfits for the next day.
She was onto something.
I recently started to pair hairstyles with the outfits I plan out to shoot on my content days, and in my opinion I think I’ve figured out what looks best with what.
YUH Lets Get Into It
kk, so I would pair buns or a high ponytail with an outfit that has a high neckline, or a very low neckline. No in between.
For me, crew neck shirts, turtle necks, and mock necks all have enough going on around your neck and face that they low key don’t need more.
Taking that extra weight and material from around the neck not only brings the eye up, but also allows you to accessorize around your neck more, and takes away from the cluttered look.
Sometimes, having curls on with a unisex t-shirt that hits high and then adding a chunky necklace to that can come off as having too much going on at once.
As for low cut tops, or even backless dresses and tops, why would you want hair down your back, or over your shoulders covering up the design of your outfit and taking away from that WOW factor?
I’ve found that it also helps with sweatinggggg! Im always hot, and I would hate to have on a really cute dress or shirt that is off the shoulder, and have hair sticking to my back or the back of my neck. ew.
Straight/Curly:
This is low-key one of my favorite styles, but I will say she is not for the weak.
Like I said earlier, I personally wouldn’t wear my hair in any down styles if my shirt had back cutouts, or was backless because of style and for sweating.
I would instead wear this with any shirt/dress that didn’t have any designs or anything style defining on the back, or that I could figure out around the neckline to not be too bulky.
I wont say that tees are only for buns or ponytails, you can tbh wear what you want however you want, don’t limit yourself.
I like curls and straight hair styles when my back is covered, or only slightly exposed.
I love my blunt cut extra thick bang wig– I call her Onika for Nicki Minaj, so if you ever hear me talking about “Onika” she is her.
While I love her because she literally always acts right, she is definitely not for every style or every outfit.
Because my bangs are long and completely cover up half my face, I choose to not wear her with anything too high necked.
Honestly, a tee shirt might be pushing it, but as long as its not a dark color, I think I might be able to finesse it.
I feel with bangs– especially thick bangs– you have to have contrast with color and with texture. My hair can look pretty silky so I wouldn’t choose to wear silk or satin because of how shiny that is, and how shiny it can come off in photos when light hits jet black hair.
Overall, my big take away from picking hairstyles for outfits is to find some type of contrast. Think of what you really want to highlight or accentuate in your look, and pick your hair around that.
If thats a backless aspect, maybe choose to wear your hair up, if thats a really cool all black look that has some space between the neckline of the outfit and compliments the hair, wear your 32 inch, bone straight, thick bangs wig that elevates the attitude of your look.
It’s your personal choice! Be yourself and do what makes you most comfortable!
Do You x.
