I’m back b*tchesssssssss
I’ve actually rededicated myself to my content, after a very long hiatus, and just period of low motivation. I received a very heartfelt and warming message earlier today—-the day I’m writing probably not posting— on how my content helped someone find ideas for a birthday outfit and I guess that was just really the message I needed to start posting and doing what I love yet again. So welcome back to our regularly scheduled programming. I promise to deliver in a non euphoria way so y’all can get a weekly dose of me before 2024.
Anyywayyyyyy
I guess I should give y’all the news that BGBW did in fact take on NYFW F/W 2022 in February! This was my first time at fashion week, and I had the pleasure of attending 2 shows during my weekend there.
I will say that New York definitely gives fashion girl vibes and I would be very concerned in living there because my bunny is actually very bummy and I would probably not survive if I had to dress up to go to the corner store, a gas station, or target.
I’ve realized we are very lax in many things out here in the Midwest and I would stick out like a sore thumb if I had to actually dress up any time I left My house.
But I know what y’all are saying, so here’s what I wore as my #FatAtFashionWeek looks, during my time in the city that never sleeps— newsflash she was actually quite knocked out when I got there so FYI.
DAY 1:
First day in NYC we didn’t have much on our agenda other than doing a lil celebratory partying the night before so I wore this very simple black velvet jumpsuit from Rainbow Shops to go out for drinks.
We were being quite low key so no need for heels or elaborate accessories, but I did pair this with a black leather jacket from Akira—borrowed from my companion— and black slip on boots from Target I believe.
Day 2:
We attended NYFW BLK, which is a new set of shows this year. It featured a bunch of indie designers including Ken Woo, Urban Brujeta, and Fluffy Diva!
I’ve recently gotten very into my photography side so I knew I wanted to grab some content there—check out my photography IG @kenyousnapped if you’d like to see those photos— but let’s get into the outfit.
I grabbed this set off of prettylittlething earlier this year— honestly it may have been a Christmas present so I am unsure if it’s still available— and my immediate thought when I decided to go to NYFW was to find some way to elevate this into a true look and not just a regular old set. So to do that my idea was to put a white shirt underneath it, but I really didn’t want a button up or just long sleeve white shirt underneath. My next idea was to take a poofy sleeve white blouse that I got from rainbow underneath but I thought that may be too much and take away from the set itself, so a mesh white shirt would have to do.
I found this one on SHEIN after looking high and low for a simple all white mesh shirt to add some extra coverage underneath but the contrast of the graphics on the shirt when combined with the suit was just chefs kiss. So when in doubt, trust your eye for pieces cause it may just be what you need to elevate your look.
Day 3:
This may just be my favorite day of all since I got to sit front row at a fashion show! My approach to this day was to scrap the outfit idea I had and actually try to be a bit more comfy. I grabbed this sweater dress from H&M literally the week before we were set to leave, and I wanted to find some way to incorporate it into my looks for the weekend.
At this point, I was worn out and my feet were killing me from hiking all over Manhattan in pointed toe shoes, so my goal was to simply wear something that would be cute but also not put a bunch of strain on me with wardrobe malfunctions or being uncomfortable to sit in while trying to enjoy myself and take photos at this show.
Since the dress was the main event, I wanted to elevate that by adding more color to the look and contrasting the giant smiley face. I picked pink because I brought my pink fur coat, and grabbed a beanie while out shopping in Soho before the event. To keep the outfit balanced with the black I added white shoes instead of black to keep the pink as a focal point.
Overall, NYFW was a vibe! I would love to go again and actually attend some more great shows– maybe this time as an actual photographer or invited guest. Hint, Hint for any designer PR people reading this. I have more outfits to showcase and really want to take the city by storm next time, and also see more plus size gals participating in #FatAtFashionWeek and showing out! So if you’re thinking about going to NYFW, check the weather first and then pop out boo!
be you. x.
