Hey GRL Friends!
I know we look to the big designers to find the trends for the upcoming year and see how that will trickle down from couture to the average gal, but maybe its just me that has seen big bold colors and bold style choices come up from the consumer level and start a new trend in the fashion industry. Nowadays, I find it easier to get pieces that are not only bold in color but also statement pieces that don’t need a lot to go with them for the effect we want. Even brands that are typically basics and neutrals are starting to incorporate more color and uniquity to their product lines.
Most notably for me, this has been H&M. While they used to be my go to place for nudes and minimalist outfits, I can now find a statement piece or something a bit spicy while shopping there. Especially during holiday season, they had a lot to offer in the plus size section for NYE looks and even now going into spring. They also have a Mugler x H&M collection launching soon, that hopefully will have plus size options, so that us girls can experience being in Mugler pieces as well.
Okay, enough about my love for H&M. I picked this dress up at H&M before NYE and have been looking for the perfect time to wear it out considering its a bit of a statement piece. As I’ve grown in my style over the past year or two, I really gravitate towards exciting pieces that can still go with a lot of things, but also can stand on their own, and start a conversation–Honestly, I’m in my Pink Era! I don’t know if its growing up or finally embracing my Leo & Aries placements (lol) that make me want to be more bold and daring, and make a statement with my outfit before I even open my mouth. But that’s my vibe right now, and I don’t see that stopping as we go into summer and fall 2023.
When I saw the dress and thought of where I’d be wearing it to, the only thing that screamed to me was “LEATHER”! So in true Bratz fashion, I grabbed a newsboy cap that I had gotten from Amazon earlier that month, and a pair of patent leather thigh highs from Akira, and played with textures to contrast the fuzzy sparkly-ness of the dress, while also making it more casual and fit for a brunch instead of a party. Since I did so much with black in the shoes and the hat, I wanted to contrast that a bit by wearing a silver purse and draw some of that light catching sparkly aspect back to the outfit.
I always say the best way to start learning your style is to just play around. My room typically looks a mess when I get dressed up to go somewhere, but its always worth it if I love my outfit and feel like the best version of me when I walk out of my house. If I could offer anyone advice on how to get better with their own style, I’d suggest starting with what part of you do you want to highlight to the world? I love being unforgettable and noticed– again that LEO placement– so I gravitate towards pieces that are bold and make statements. They scream “Oh, Look at that girl! She’s the main character in her story!” Which is what I feel I am, the main character in the movie of life that is Kennedy’s.
Start there, and then keep building on that.
Do you, be you boo. x.
